2015 saw a rise in terrorism around the world, and even though Canada wasn’t directly targeted, Calgary’s police chief says all officers should be prepared in case there are any potential threats this year.
Roger Chaffin told 660 NEWS, terrorism is significant on his radar.
“I think the global nature of terrorism in 2015 into 2016 is something we all have to pay attention to,” he said. “The things we see happening in other cities shows the outreach, the ideology groups like ISIS have and the fact that it can pop up as a homegrown issue in any city.”
He added, it’s important to have the right tactics in place to respond, in case Calgary ever faces a situation like the one in Paris, back in November 2015.
Chaffin said in 2016, the service will be going through exercises to make sure everyone is well-equipped in case such an event were to take place here.
