Website tracks Alberta’s changing winter

Are Alberta’s winters really getting warmer, or are we just imagining things?

A new website tracking temperatures in the province says they are.

AlbertaClimateRecords.com was set up by Dr. Stefan Kienzle and his lab at the University of Lethbridge, and has mapped out how warm and how cold it’s been in Alberta from 1950 to 2010.

The data shows there are around 22 fewer days below zero degrees per year in Calgary, compared to 66 years ago, and in Edmonton, 21 fewer days.

The average annual temperature in the province has also warmed by two or three degrees.
