One man is in custody after taking police on a wild ride in and around Calgary.

It started around 9:45 p.m. Wednesday, when police in Calgary spotted a stolen Escalade.

When they tried to pull the vehicle over, it took off, driving the wrong way in the southbound lanes of Stoney Trail at 160km/h, with the HAWCS helicopter following overhead.

The driver then bailed onto Peigan Trail, entered a residential area and stole a different vehicle, and took off up the QE2 to Airdrie where spike strips were deployed to stop him.

It didn’t quite work though, as the man continued driving on blown tires all the way up to Didsbury before RCMP were finally able to stop and arrest him.

Police say he was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant, though wouldn’t say what the warrant was for.
