A city councillor is hoping to return some freedom to seniors living in Calgary.
Gian-Carlo Carra has brought forth a solution to an ongoing barrier for those who get around on scooters.
Carra said he’s heard consistently from different seniors in his ward who’ve had problems with batteries running down taking away some short lived independence.
“They have like a couple of months of freedom and then that freedom just starts clawing back on them and their point of no return gets increasingly shorter and it’s this very emotionally upsetting experience as they see their world suck in,” he said.
Carra proposed designated charging stations to extend the range of elderly citizens.
Administration is promising to take the idea to both the seniors and transportation departments to see how it could make this happen and report back with a plan.
