Councillor pushing for Chinatown redevelopment plan

The newly formed Chinatown District Business Revitalization Zone is praising the efforts of a Calgary councillor to get a new area redevelopment plan put together for the neighbourhood.
Druh Farrell is filing a notice of motion for the new plan Monday, and says it’s long past due as the last plan was put together three decades ago.
“A lot has changed in the city in 30 years and Chinatown has been lagging behind other areas in the downtown; Eau Claire for example or East Village. And partly, it’s because of restrictions within the area redevelopment plan,” she said.
The Chinatown Business Revitalization Zone says it’s important for any new plan to include a lot of cultural elements; including signage, architecture, colours, and public art.
The motion calls on city staff to report back on what resources will be needed to form the new area redevelopment plan by the end of this year.
