Several unknowns surrounding Nexen explosion

There are still several questions left unanswered, as Nexen officials Saturday addressed a fatal explosion at their Long Lake facility.
The blast occurred at the Hydro Cracker Unit Friday afternoon, claiming the life of one person, while sending another to hospital in Edmonton for treatment in the burn unit.
Senior Vice-President of Canadian Operations at Nexen, Ron Bailey said the company is saddened by the tragedy and condolences are going out to the victims’ families.
“Having a fatality or someone being seriously injured is our worst nightmare, I can not imagine the devastation that this has caused on the families and for that were sorry,” said Bailey.
The investigation is still in the early stages as officials try and figure out what exactly caused the explosion.
“We haven’t had full access to get back into the site, we put it under a controlled situation” Bailey added.
“We just do not have details to share at this time. We have been focused on shutting down safely and securing the site so that will be part of the investigation.”
The names of the victims are not being released out of respect to the families.
