Crews battle blaze in Arbour Lake

There were no injuries in a fire at an abandoned, boarded up house in Arbour Lake Sunday night.

Firefighters arrived at the home on Arbour Stone Close N.W. at about 7:30 p.m. and spent the next couple of hours putting out the flames.

Battalion Chief Al Magwood tells 660 NEWS battling fires in cold weather can be challenging.

“We have to leave our lines open. If we shut down our hose lines they freeze up, the nozzles do, so we literally won’t be able to use them if we need them later. So, we leave them cracked, so you get a little bit of water flowing of course, which increases the ice load throughout the community,” he said.

Magwood says the fire did not spread to nearby homes.

Investigators are still determining the cause of the blaze.
