A new group has formed in Calgary in hopes of bringing a positive message from the urban community, following a shooting at a nightclub a couple weeks ago.
The group is called URBIN.
Spokesperson Frances Bradshaw says its goal is to promote urban culture in the city while also being part of the solution to prevent future violence at destinations like the Ten Nightclub where a man was shot on January 9.
“We’ll post and we’ll complain and say we don’t want to see this, this isn’t part of our community, this doesn’t represent us, especially for industry insiders. We have talked amongst ourselves about how we address issues of violence while still giving people good, quality entertainment,” she said.
URBIN is holding a community round table Wednesday evening.
It’s open to everyone who wants to attend at the Public Beer Market on 32 Street NE starting at 7 p.m.
