Funeral to be held for Ron Southern

The public is invited to pay their respects Thursday, to a well-respected Calgarian.

A funeral service for Ron Southern begins at 11 am. at the Equiplex and Riding Hall at Spruce Meadows.

Southern, who founded both the show jumping facility and ATCO, passed away last week at the age of 85.

The Calgary Tower, Langevin Bridge, Olympic Plaza, Arts Commons, and Stephen Avenue Galleria trees will also be lit up red, by request of his family, to honour the prominent businessman’s patriotic spirit.

From 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday night, the tower will light its Olympic flame, highlighting Southern’s passion for sports in Calgary.
