“Sky Palace” open for business

A penthouse suite in Edmonton that came to symbolize what was seen as the former Alberta government’s sense of entitlement is open for business.
Final construction on the “sky palace” on top of the Federal Building is finished, and the suite has been available for government meetings since Jan. 1.
Cheryl Oates, spokeswoman for Premier Rachel Notley, said there have been about six meetings there, but none by the NDP caucus.
Oates added, many people still link the penthouse to excess under Alison Redford’s Progressive Conservatives.
The suite was to be a luxury retreat for Redford, but spending on it was cut off by her successors after she stepped down from the top job two years ago.
The penthouse is now a design mishmash of bedrooms turned boardrooms and hand-me-down furniture, including Redford’s old office couch.
