Calgarians split on whether Wideman suspension was justified

The verdict is in, and some may think it’s a steep one.
Flames Defenseman and Alternate Captain Dennis Wideman has been slapped with a 20 game suspension after running over a linesman in a game last week, though the Player’s Association is appealing the decision.
CityNews caught up with some local rec hockey players for their thoughts on the suspension, and got mixed results.
“I definitely understand the league has to set an example by what he did, and 20 games is, I think, the standard for that, so, I think they were stuck in between a rock and a hard place, you know, they had to do what they had to do,” one man said.
“You know 20 games is a lot of games. I think it was accidental, you know, I think he was concussed. I think he was not thinking properly,” another offered.
The hit came while Wideman was trying to get to the bench after he was body-checked hard along the boards.
