Around 150 cameras worn by Calgary police officers are being taken out of service for testing, after a glitch was reported with some of the camera’s microphones.
The button used to talk on the microphones is stuck on 14 of the devices, which causes interference with the police radio network.
Most of the cameras are worn by officers in District 1. Traffic unit members use 26 cameras in total, but those don’t have microphones, and will remain in service.
A CPS spokesperson told 660 NEWS, they anticipated these types of problems, which is why they’ve been rolling out the cameras in stages.
The cameras have been worn for more than a year, with the goal of having all front-line officers wearing them by 2017.
This timeline is not expected to be significantly delayed, even with the technical issue.
