If the economic downturn in Calgary has you feeling stressed, anxious, or even depressed — you have a lot of company.
The Calgary Counselling Centre said January was the busiest month in their 53 year history, with more than 900 requests for help.
Chief executive officer Dr. Robbie Babins-Wagner explained she’s never seen the waiting room busier than it was Tuesday morning.
“When you think back to when the start of this recession happened and when oil dropped, we’re actually running about 30 per cent higher than we were through most of 2014,” she said.
A lot of new clients have lost their jobs and are struggling to find a new one, but even those who are finding employment are encountering different roadblocks.
“Some people are finding jobs,” Babins-Wagner stated. “But, they are different than jobs they’ve had and salaries may be less in some of those positions.”
She added if you’re feeling stressed, it’s best to get help as soon as possible. The Calgary Counselling Centre doesn’t have a wait list and offers a sliding fee scale based on income.
