Calgary Maple Festival will go ahead, despite warm temperatures

Even with our unseasonable spring-like temperatures, the 14th annual Calgary Maple Festival will happen at Heritage Park in March.

Nicole Buret, chair of the Francophone Association of Alberta, told 660 NEWS that the French-Canadian event will not be hindered by warm temperatures.

“Great weather will actually be fine. For the maple syrup, it’s not on snow anymore, it’s on ice. So the blocks of ice are kept frozen and they will last the whole day and they can’t change that, so that’s not a big issue.”

The festival involves drizzling some delicious, genuine Canadian maple syrup on the ice, which creates some sugary popsicles to enjoy.

In case it does cool down, there will be tents to keep people warm, but otherwise you’re encouraged to get out and see everything happening.

Also, there will be more than just maple syrup to take in.

“Lots of performers, inside the tent, outside the tent, walking around and entertaining the whole family,” Buret said. “We’ll also have a concert on Saturday night not to be missed.”

The Maple Festival is on March 5th and 6th at Heritage Park, running from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days. For more information, visit the festival’s website, calgarymaplefest.com
