Dinosaurs stomping back to Calgary Zoo

Some gigantic, roaring, reptiles are back to invade the Calgary zoo this spring.

It’s return of the roar, with 18 animatronic dinosaurs roaming through the zoo’s Prehistoric Park. Spokesperson Trish Exton-Parder says the Dinosaurs Alive exhibit helps budding paleontologist learn about the creatures, while getting up close.

“The movements and the sounds are really as authentic as (it gets),” she says “We’ve certainly spoke to the folks at (The Royal Tyrell) who are an awesome resource in Drumheller. And when you walk through the Prehistoric Park they’re all on remotes so you may not know that some of them move or make sounds. So it’s kind of a neat interactive experience.

The zoo says the dinos are also a great learning tool when it comes to educating people about how to protect animal populations today.

Also returning with the dinos are the zoo’s mascots Sam and a lifelike T-rex, Rex, to teach guests all they know about the creatures that roamed the earth 65 million years ago.

The exhibit reopens March 18th.
