Agriculture panel explores business, finance ideas

A panel at the University of Lethbridge is focusing on growing global demand for food.

The two day event kicked off Wednesday on the Lethbridge and Calgary campuses, highlighting the AGILITY program, designed to nurture innovative ideas and develop entrepreneurial thinking.

Dr. Lesley Brown says they are bringing in business leaders in agriculture and finance, giving students a chance to network and brainstorm.

“The intention, of course, is to maybe sort of capture and spark interest in agri-business and agri-finance and to help develop the next group of leaders in this sector,” she said.

Dr. Brown says this industry is an integral part of Southern Alberta.

Food demand around the world is expected to double in the next 35 years, and Canada is one of only six countries with the capacity to tackle the challenge.
