Canada not afraid of major Davis Cup challenge

Without Milos Raonic and Daniel Nestor, Canada is certainly the underdog heading into Davis Cup play versus France.

Raonic is out due to a hip injury he suffered during January’s Australian Open, while Nestor had to pull out for family reasons. That means the bulk of Canada’s work goes to Vasek Pospisil. He’s ranked 44th in the world on the singles circuit and 16th in doubles.

“If you approach it the right way, it doesn’t change anything from my perspective,” the 25-year-old told Sportsnet. “I have a job to do, regardless, every time I go on the court.”

The clay surface, which is picked by the host country, will make it a tough go for the Canadians.

“Definitely not the surface we want to be playing on,” Pospisil explained. “I would be lying if I said it wasn’t a little bit of a hurdle, but I think we can do (well).”

Sportsnet will have full coverage of the tie between Canada and France.
