Road rage is an ongoing issue facing many towns and cities worldwide and it’s not just a season-sensitive problem.
Calgary police say despite the common belief, there is no actual evidence to prove that frustration behind the wheel peaks when warm weather arrives.
But Traffic Sgt. Paul Stacey told 660 NEWS with more drivers on the road in the spring and summer, it’s important to be forgiving if someone makes a blunder.
“Mistakes are made by all of us as we drive,” he said. “My encouragement to people is, have a little bit of patience, understand that people make mistakes, don’t engage, move on, and you’ll get to where you need to go, and you’ll be a lot more relaxed.”
He added the last thing people want to do is is display road rage by engaging another driver if they’re cut off.
“It’s not your job to hold them to account, it’s our job when we do our traffic enforcement,” he said. “Naturally, we’re not everywhere all the time, but we do hand out a lot of tickets for infractions, I think we have a pretty good handle on it and no good can come out of it if somebody takes the law into their own hands.”
Stacey said conflict is inevitable on the road, so people shouldn’t let themselves get fired up over someone else making a mistake.
