Alberta offers something other provinces don’t for people trying to get liver donations

A man from British Columbia has come to Alberta to try and get a new liver.

Eric Fier has an auto immune disease called primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC).

He told 660 NEWS, Alberta offers the hope of anonymous donation, which isn’t offered in all provinces.

“What’s kept it at bay is the ethical part of trying to assess people for donations, and I can fully understand that,” he said. “But the ehtics right now, where we’re at with social media, awareness and the internet takes a lot of that ethical problem out of the equation.”

Fier believes it should be someone’s choice to seek out anonymous donations, not something that’s up to the government.

Eric Fier is a 57-year-old engineer, and has a wife and four kids.
