Bret Hart opens up about battle with cancer

His doctor says he’s doing tremendously well and is now on the road to recovery.

On Monday, Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart opened up about his prostate cancer diagnosis and the surgery that saved his life.

And the wrestler is 99 per cent confident he will beat what he calls his toughest opponent yet.

Hart says he’s braved the storm, he’s following doctor’s orders, and his surgery appears to be a success.

“It’s a little too early to say I’ve beaten cancer, but it’s safe to say that I think I’ve beat it.”

Hart admits, it’s a little scary hearing the “c-word,” knowing that it’s deeply personal, he wasn’t sure he wanted it to be public. But the closer he got to surgery, he changed his mind. The local cancer says as a result, they’ve seen 80 patients since, who otherwise wouldn’t have come in to get tested.

He says it was early detection that saved his life, and that he never once considered himself as a candidate for cancer, as he considers himself to be in good shape, and he is not a heavy drinker or smoker.

As for recovery, he plans on steering clear of the gym for a while, but does say he’ll be playing plenty of hockey.

His message to others?

“The sooner you know and the sooner you start fighting it, the better chance you have of surviving it.”
