Calgary police to beef up their frontline

A shake-up is underway within the Calgary Police as it tries to address public safety concerns and current workloads.

They’re moving 48 positions to support the frontline in hopes of impacting expecations of Calgarians. In short, it will mean more officers on the street.

CPS says they undertook the move after a careful review of existing units, the move means they’ll also close the Brae Centre and Riverbend Community stations in District 6.

Twenty of the positions will move to District 2, twenty will go to District 3, four will move to District 4 and four will move to District 5.

In a release, officials say the allocation took into consideration the number of calls for service per officers as well as the number of calls for service in each District.

The move goes into effect on May 8, 2016, and any remaining vacancies will be filled by the recruit class that graduates in May and July 2016.
