A popular downtown restaurant will have to closed for a short time after a car drove through the side of it Sunday afternoon.
Police say that at around 5 PM, a car and an SUV collided on 12th Avenue and 2nd Street Southwest and the incident sent the car crashing into the side of The Beltliner.
Owner Brendan Bankowski tells 660 News, it’s hard to describe what it was like when the car crashed in.
“Tough to put in words. It’s my first experience with a car crashing into a restaurant I own, so just disbelief I guess. And trying to make sure everybody was okay, and once we realized everybody was okay we just let it sink in, we’re letting it play out.”
Luckily, though, nobody was hurt.
“It was lucky we close Sundays at four o’clock, we were almost out, there were no customers left in the building there was only a couple of guys left in the kitchen finishing cleaning and some dishes. So nobody was hurt, it’s just a real mess, some broken tables, chairs, glasses and a wall. All those things can be fixed,” Bankowski adds
Police add that the two drivers of the cars were not injured either.
The side wall of the restaurant was completely knocked down, there’s glass everywhere along with damaged chairs and tables.
Bankowski also says they will have to be closed for a little bit while they repair the damage.
“Well we’re closed tomorrow, and that’s about as far as we’ve got so far. We’ll see what happens, doesn’t look like there’s any structural damage to the building, just a big mess!”
