Fire near southeast restaurant causes minimal damages

Calgary fire crews were fighting a morning fire near a restaurant in the city’s southeast.

It happened at approximately 3:30 a.m. Sunday morning after reports of a fire at the Rice King restaurant, located at 9190 Macleod Trail.

Battalion Chief Al Magwood told 660 NEWS, the fire started in a nearby garbage can.

“There was some extension into the restaurant but it was minimal,” said Magwood. “It was kept to a single alarm and there were no injuries.”

Northbound Macleod Tr. was shut down between 94th and 90th avenues for a few hours but has since re-opened.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
