An emotional first day of testimony in Calgary Monday at the first-degree murder trail for three people accused in the death of a young, single father.
The victim was 24-year-old Ryan Lane.
His ex-girlfriend Sheena Cuthill, as well as her husband Timothy Rempel and brother in-law Wilhelm are charged with his murder.
Lane’s father, Bruce, testified saying he had warned his son about going out to meet someone the night of his disapperance.
Crown prosecutor Tom Buglas said there are unique circumstances in this case since three people are charged.
“We need to make sure that any evidence against one doesn’t get improperly used against the other,” Buglas said to media. “That’s the justice’s issue, he’s the judge of law and we’ll all take care to make sure that occurs.”
Lane’s body was found near Beiseker in February 2012 after an exhaustive search.
Police believe he was kidnapped in a parking lot and murdered within 24 hours.
The jury trial is slated for six weeks.
