Alberta might be in the midst of an economic downturn, but it’s not crimping the desire of Calgarians for fine chocolates this Easter.
Kristin Halpen, marketing director for Cococo Chocolatiers, told 660 NEWS people don’t want to change their holiday traditions, despite the poor economy.
“Easter seems to be following the rest of our traditional holidays, like Christmas and Valentine’s,” she said. “We’re still seeing our regular customers, and some new customers, and they continue to buy those traditional products. So we haven’t seen much of an impact on the holidays in our stores.”
As for their biggest selling items, Halpen says they include the Easter pralines – chocolates filled with a hazelnut cream mixture, as well as large, hollow eggs filled with smaller Easter chocolates.
She adds the stores, which sell Bernard Callebaut products, are featuring more than chocolate bunnies this year.
“The pralines … we do those in all kinds of cute animal shapes. Little chicks, little bunnies, and then some non-traditional items, like cats and dogs and monkeys even.”
