A crash east of Calgary has left two people dead and two with serious injuries.
Emergency crews were called out just after 7 a.m. Saturday with ambulances responding from Calgary and Strathmore along with local fire and RCMP.
Stuart Brideaux with Alberta Health Services tells 660 NEWS the scene is at Highway 797 near Township Road 240, just south of Highway 1.
“On arrival, crews determined two vehicles had been involved in a collision with substantial damage to both vehicles. One patient, an adult male in his 50’s, has been taken by ground ambulance to Foothills Hospital in serious but stable condition. A woman in her forties, from the same vehicle, an SUV, was flown by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills Hospital, also in serious but stable condition,” says Brideaux.
The body of a woman, believed to be in her early twenties, was found in the SUV.
Brideaux says a man in his late teens or early twenties, who had been driving the car involved, died at the scene.
There’s no word yet on the cause of the crash.
Highway 797 will likely be closed for some time.
