The Calgary Board of Education has passed the second reading of policy changes related to Bill 10.
The bill, which was put in place June 1st 2015, requires Alberta schools to make changes around inclusion and respect for diverse sexual orientations.
Proposed changes didn’t sit well with some parents and groups who are concerned about some students using washrooms based on their gender identity.
However, Board of Trustees Chair, Joy Bowen-Eyre says creating a more welcoming and respectful environment reinforces their commitment to student success.
A first reading of the document passed on March 15th.
It will now go the province for approval before trustees give it a third and final reading.
