A folk singer, a cellist and a country singer are all up for the same award at this weekend’s Juno Awards, and fans will get the chance to see all of them perform before the big show.
The event goes Thursday evening at the Grey Eagle Event Centre.
Juno Fest Indigenous Showcase spokesperson Tim Kenny says, the showcase puts a spotlight on diversity within Indigenous cultures.
“Indigenous music isn’t just one genre, so it’s really important to see that. Just like Indigenous cultures are diverse throughout the country, our music is diverse throughout the country,” Kenny said. “That’s the first thing that comes to my mind. The cultures are diverse, so likely the languages are diverse, the food is diverse, and the music is diverse.”
Buffy Saint-Marie is headlining the showcase, which also features Siksika Nation country singer Armond Duck Chief.
Doors open at 7 p.m. For more information, visit the Juno event page.
