AHS calling on Albertans to make changes for health

Alberta Health Services is hoping people are ready to make lifestyle changes for the better.

Saskatchewan and B.C. already take part in the Change Day movement, and this year, Alberta is joining in on the action.

AHS Interim President and CEO Verna Yiu says the focus is on improving health and healthcare by promising to make simple changes for the better, and sharing their pledges online.

“For us, we just felt it was really, really important to try to engage the public, as well as patients and families, to understanding that for all of us, we can all contribute to improving health care,” Yiu said. “It’s really centering on the idea that all of us can have an impact on our own healthcare.”

A few thousand Albertans have already gone online and made their pledges, promising a variety of changes, from eating healthier to cutting out alcohol to spending more time with loved ones.

“It’s really a powerful message if you put your pledge online, so others can see what you’ve pledged and get inspired to try to make change for the better,” she said. “Our hope is that if we can each contribute in a small way in making improvements, it will add up to making a big difference and improving the care and well-being of those who use healthcare in Alberta.”

Change Day Alberta will take place on Monday. To make a pledge, visit the Change Day Alberta website.
