Firefighters investigate after two blazes in same Marlborough home

It was Deja vu for the Calgary Fire Department Tuesday night.

An investigation is underway after a home in the northeast saw two blazes in less than a week.

A deck fire spread up the back wall of a home on Marbank Way last Friday, before crews doused the flames.

Firefighters made another visit to the house around 9 p.m. Tuesday and are now on fire watch.

In the blaze early Friday, residents only evacuated when a neighbour knocked on the door — the smoke alarm wasn’t working.

Acting Battalion Chief Randy McCrae says no one was home this time.

“A small fire inside the house, crews entered quickly and extinguished the fire,” he said, adding this is very unusual. “Well, it is suspicious. Just having two fires in a week would be suspicious.”

Crews also put out a shed fire at nearby Marpole Place around the same time.

“Proximity and time – you know – stands out but we can’t say for sure they are linked. They are different in their nature,” McCrae said.
