Friday could break warm temperature record

Get ready for a hot one, Calgary!

Records could be shattered Friday with the projected high from Environment Canada at 27 C.

That’s two degrees warmer than the record high set on this day in 1977 of 25 C.

It’s also way above average temperatures, which for April 8 is usually about 10 C.

Environment Canada Meterologist Kirk Torneby tells 660 NEWS, it’ll be short-lived.

“It is a one and done kind of thing. It looks like there is a pretty powerful cold front expected to move through the province later this afternoon and overnight, starting in northwestern Alberta. It’s going to rocket all the way through and should reach the international border by dawn, bringing down temperatures and some wind,” he said.

Other areas are expected to break records: like the mountain parks, Lethbridge and Pincher Creek.
