Calgary-based rink wins world men’s curling championship

The world men’s curling championship trophy is headed to Calgary, after Canada won the 2016 title with a 5-3 victory over Denmark at St. Jakobshalle arena in Switzerland.

Kevin Koe’s rink, which plays out of the Glencoe Club, broke open a 3-3 tie with two big points in the ninth end.

Canada kept Denmark off the scoresheet in the 10th, thanks in part to double takeout by third Marc Kennedy.

“It feels awesome,” Koe explained. “It was a battle today, they’re a good young team. It wasn’t flashy, but it was solid, and what a feeling. It’s so hard to win the Brier, so you just want to win the worlds when you get here, and it feels awesome.”

It’s Canada’s first men’s curling title since 2012.
