Calgary fire crews respond to two building fires within minutes Monday

Calgary fire crews were kept busy with two building fires within minutes of each other on Monday afternoon.

At approximately 3:15 pm, firefighters responded to a building fire at the 2700 block of Brentwood Blvd NW.

Less than 10 minutes later, another building fire was reported in the SE community of Inglewood.

When firefighters arrived at Brentwood Blvd NW, they encountered a shed fully involved with fire in close proximity to a residential building containing six suites.

A quick knock down of the fire prevented flames from spreading to the nearby building.

Neighbouring residences were evacuated as a safety precaution.

No injuries were reported as a result of the Brentwood fire and a Calgary fire investigator went to the scene to determine the origin and cause.

Residents have now been allowed back in their homes.

When fire crews arrived at the 200 block of 9th Ave SE for the Inglewood building fire, they found smoke in the hallway of the third floor.

The building has a business on the main floor and the upper two floors are residential.

It’s believed the fire originated in a suite on the third floor.

No injuries were reported as a result of this fire however damage to the suite where the fire originated is considered extensive with some moderate smoke damage to the third floor.

Traffic to the area was impacted as fire crews needed to close a portion of 9th Ave SE in order to safely do their work.

The investigation into the cause of that fire is still ongoing.
