RCMP officer charged with sexual assault

An RCMP officer has been charged with sexual assault, following a traffic stop in Bow Island, Alta., in February 2015.

Mounties also charged Cst. Elliot Teed with two counts of breach of trust, after a public complaint was made at the Bow Island detachment, located 330 kilometres southwest of Calgary.

It’s alleged Tweed touched the female victim inappropriately while conducting a physical search during the traffic stop.

Corporal Sharon Franks says the allegations are a serious concern, and the RCMP is taking it very seriously.

“Like anyone, this officer will have due process, and the court will decide … the outcome of it,” she said. “In most cases, and in fact, in all cases I can tell you that when someone makes an allegation against an officer of the RCMP, we do an investigation, and we receive the recommendations from the crown prosecutor as well.”

Tweed has been suspended from duty, and will appear in court on May 4th.
