Six school buses burned, investigators suspect arson

Investigators believe they have an arsonist on their hands, after half a dozen school buses were set on fire early Monday morning.

It happened before 3:30 a.m., at 144 Ave and 6 Street NE, just north of Coventry Hills.

But, it doesn’t mean a school board is now short on transportation — all of the burned buses were ones which are no longer used, and were at a bus graveyard of sorts.

Battalion Chief John Cherweniuk says it looks like each bus was set on fire separately.

“(It’s) pretty unlikely that it would have spread from bus to bus like that,” he said. “It appears that the fires were potentially set individually.”

Calgary Police also say this has all the hallmarks of arson, and investigators will be looking for video footage to help find out who did it.

There were no reported injuries.
