PC leader critical of Earls abandoning Alberta beef

It seems everyone is talking about the decision by Earls restaurants to stop using Canadian beef and turn instead to a so-called humane supplier from Kansas.

The story has blown up on social media as outraged Albertans vent against the chain, founded in Edmonton in 1982.

“I have trememdous confidence in Canada’s beef, and every restaurant and grocery store in the country should too,” says Interim PC leader Ric McIver.

The provincial party leader was a meat cutter for several years and worked for about 25 years in sales and marketing in that industry.

“I know they’re trying to do something special but the smart thing to do would be to work with the Canadian system until they could get it right, rather than abandon Canada,” says McIver.

Earls and Alberta beef were two of the top trending subjects on Twitter Thursday morning.
