Once again, Calgary and much of the rest of province is under a heat advisory.
You’re advised to take precautionary measures against sun stroke and sunburn.
Phil Fulton of the Humane Society says that goes for your pet as well.
For instance, don’t leave Fido in the car when you make a so-called “quick stop”.
“A lot of times, people will say ‘you know, I’m just running in, it’ll only be a couple of minutes.’ What we found most times, people are in there longer than they think,” Fulton said. “When your dog is in your car, or your cat or humans for that matter, it gets very hot, very quickly and it can become very dangerous.”
Other tips: if your dog is outside, have multiple water dishes.
“When it’s hot, people often forget to fill up water bowls, or quite often, animals will knock over their water bowls,” Fulton added.
With that winter coat many are still wearing, take your dog on shorter, but perhaps more frequent, walks.
