The Calgary Emergency Management Agency is sending a support team to Fort McMurray to assist with aiding those affected by the wildfires.
CEMA was asked Wednesday to deploy the Canada Taskforce 2 disaster response team to support the efforts of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
They will also be sending two incident management teams.
Chief Tom Sampson said 50 people in all should be in place by Thursday and take command roles by the morning.
“The situation is relatively unstable there,” he said. “We’re loading our full load. To my recollection, we’ve never gone out with our full complement of equipment.”
Sampson said they will also be taking a semi-full of drinking water for teams on the ground.
The City of Calgary has also created a webpage for Fort McMurray evacuees potentially relocating to Calgary during the mandatory evacuation: calgary.ca/fortmcmurray.
