Calgary sets up second evacuee reception centre

The City of Calgary has set up a second reception centre for evacuees from Fort McMurray.

Those arriving in the city without family or friends to stay with are being asked to register at Ambrose University and College at 150 Ambrose Circle SW.

Evacuees who have lodging can still access social and support services, including food, transit passes, personal care items, medical resources, and emotional wellness resources.

As of Friday morning, 450 evacuees were staying in City of Calgary reception centres, with that number anticipated to grow throughout the day.

Cats and dogs are welcome, and anyone in need of emergency pet supplies can speak with a reception centre member.

Donations of goods, clothing and personal items cannot be accepted from the public, and volunteers are not needed.
