Concerns discussed at Springbank Reservoir open house in Calgary

The second of two open houses on the proposed Springbank Reservoir was held in the city on Wednesday night.

The discussions are part of an Environmental Impact Assessment which allows nearby residents and anyone else concerned to better understand the project and get updates on design and development.

The project, has sparked some criticism by some residents who believe, in the event of another flood, the area would be sacrificed in order to protect those within city limits.

Ryan Robinson, is against the Springbank project and tells CityNews, ” The size of the project continues to grow with very little information about the cost of the newly enlarged project. The flood mitigation project at McLean creek is a much better option for Albertans, its entirely on Crown land, it displaces no residents and will protect the upstream communities of Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows.”

Manon Plante, Assistant Deputy Minister with Alberta Transportation says ” The goal of the open houses are to share information with the public about where the government is at with the project, receive comments, answer questions and take any concerns down and get back to them.”

She adds, ” There are a lot more people in Calgary who want to see this project get done quickly then there is in Springbank.”

The first open house this week was held on Tuesday night in Springbank.
