RCMP update operations in Fort McMurray during evacuation

Alberta RCMP say there were 29 cases of occupied homes during patrols following the evacuation of Fort McMurray.

Police say most didn’t have cellphones or vehicles and were assisted out and a very small number refused to actually leave.

There was also 100 cases of break-ins — 91 of which were seen by police — but it’s very possible a significant number were residents checking in on their neighbours homes and looking for pets.

Police also did not seize any guns, although they did find three on different matters unrelated to the evacuation.

RCMP report five missing persons cases, but all were those people were found safe and sound.

196 of its own officers have been displaced by the wildfire, along with other staff.
