The Calgary Zoo has been welcoming a lot of Fort McMurray evacuees.
The attraction is providing free admission to residents displaced by the wildfires, in the hopes they can take their minds off the disaster.
Spokesperson Trish Exton-Parder says they’ve had about 300 guests take them up on the offer in the first week.
“There’s so much that they have to do in the next few weeks, and down the road — just to be able to have accommodations again, and some sense of normalcy, so, for us to give them just a little bright light in the day is really a small piece of it all, but we’re happy to do it,” she said.
Evacuees can get into the zoo for free through the end of June, by showing identification proving they are from the Fort McMurray area.
