Prices on the rise at the pump

Gas prices are on the rise in Calgary, jumping upwards of a dime at many stations Friday morning.

While the hike comes “conveniently” on a long weekend, Dan McTeague with GasBuddy.com says there’s more to it than that.

“A lot of speculators, more importantly refiners, throughout the U.S. Midwest, beginning in Chicago, are concerned there just won’t be enough gasoline come June because of the potential threat of these forest fires to disrupt the crude supplies,” he explained.

He says some suppliers like Suncor have already said they won’t be able to honour contracts in the near future, and that has wholesale prices on the rise which retailers need to cover by raising rates at the pump.
