Building owners could soon be looking up more often.
A city by-law is one step closer to being passed that would force inspections on building exteriors to ensure nothing will be falling off.
The by-law was passed by a committee Wednesday, and requires buildings at least five storeys in height and more than ten years old to be inspected every five years.
The proposal comes after a rash of incidents in the past few years of falling debris off downtown buildings, including last week when some siding fell onto 5 Street Southwest, shutting a portion of the busy roadway for a few days.
The by-law now heads to council.
