Wildfire grows south of Fort Mac

The wildfire burning south of Fort McMurray has grown slightly.

It’s now up to nearly 582,000 hectares, after sitting at around 581,500 hectares for about a week.

The province says its status is still considered “out of control” and extreme fire conditions continue to exist in the area, but the blaze is 70 per cent contained.

As of Thursday morning, there were 22 other wildfires burning in the province all of them in the north, with three of those out of control.

Nearly 2,800 fire fighters are battling the blazes across Alberta.
