Off-duty officer stops erratic driver

A single vehicle accident on southbound Deerfoot at Glenmore Trails late Friday afternoon turned in to a much bigger issue then it first appeared.

Calgary Police Acting Detective Jody Cross says an off-duty RCMP officer, who witnessed the crash, and initially stopped to assist the driver became suspicious that the driver was impaired had tried to make an arrest.

Cross says the driver did not comply with the officer’s direction so they called in for assistance from the Calgary Police.

“We had our members respond, nobody was hurt, the driver of the vehicle was checked by EMS and at this point we’re trying to determine whether it was a medical issue or whether or not there was actual impairment that contributed to the crash, that’s the most information we have at this point,” he said.

The incident happened just before 6pm.
