Alberta Health Services is out with a public service announcement with the days of summer quickly approaching: be cautious when leaving windows and balcony doors open.
Sherry MacGillivray with the Alberta Children’s Hospital says curious kids may fall out, leading to serious injury.
“Most of the time, these children are younger than five,” she said. “That means they are head-heavy and they tend to fall on their heads, they get a lot of head injuries.”
“Depending on if they hit something on the way down, they could have extremity injuries and torso injuries as well.”
