Alberta Serious Incident Response Team investigating CPS arrest

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the conduct of Calgary police officers during a recent arrest.

In the morning hours of June 11, 2016, a 45-year-old man was allegedly seen breaking into a closed business located on 17 Ave SW. Police entered the premise and located the man, who was armed with a sledgehammer and crowbar, and took him into custody.

The man complained of injuries and was taken to hospital where he was briefly admitted and treated. He has subsequently been released from hospital and remains in pretrial custody.

ASIRT’s investigation will focus on the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the officers while engaged with the man.
