The weekend is packed with events in and around Calgary:

What: Aboriginal Week Pow Wow
Where: New Indian Village, Enmax Park, Calgary Stampede grounds
When: Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.

A free performance to wrap up 2016 National Aboriginal Week in Calgary. Entertainment from Indian City, Drezus, Sila Singers, and Asham Stompers with Sakeeng’s Finest.

verses vs homelessness

What: Verses vs. Homelessness
Where: John Dutton Theatre
When: Friday and Saturday, 7 p.m.

Calgary artists debut collaboration with artists and employees from the Drop-In Centre, as part of the Sled Island Music & Arts Festival, running all weekend with 250 artists, playing 35 different venues. Tickets are $10.

What: Dr. Seuss in the Park
Where: Riley Park
When: Saturday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and every Saturday until August 27.

This event, put on by volunteers from the University of Calgary aims to get kids excited about reading. There will also be crafts, face painting and games.

buskerfest

What: Okotoks Buskerfest
Where: Downtown Okotoks
When: Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Street performers, live music, and over 100 artisan vendors to shop at.

horde at the hive

What: Horde at the Hive
Where: Chinook Honey Company, Okotoks
When: Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Get a glimpse at Norse culture, shop for some crafts, and take in some mock battles. Admission is free.

parkland summerfest

What: Parkland Summerfest
Where: 14660 Parkland Blvd SE
When: Saturday, 8:30 a.m. to 11 p.m.

An extravaganza packed with activities like a fun run, car show, tennis tournament, disc golf tournament, laser tag and food trucks. It will also feature entertainment from Yukon Blonde, the Mocking Shadows, Borderline, and a mystery top 20 hit band, hot off a North American tour. Tickets are $50, but free for kids under 17 and seniors over 65.

sikome lake

What: Sikome Lake opening weekend
Where: Sikome Lake
When: Saturday and Sunday

The popular recreational hangout is re-opening for the season, but will now cost a fee to use to pay for upgrades. A family pass is $10.
