Eight city councillors have added their names to a motion to reform the secondary suite process.
The proposal by Councillor Shane Keating hopes to finally put the bogged down issue to bed on Monday, after years of gruelling meetings at City Hall dealing with applications.
Keating suggests Calgary be divided into two zones: one in the inner city that permits the suites and an outer zone where they will be “discretionary.”
Homes in the inner area could go ahead with the basement apartments without council approval.
Other landlords would still go through a green light or red light process but wouldn’t have to go before councillors.
